We Like The Bible
At South we are committed to teaching the Bible because we are convinced that it is God’s word and that it is useful to us as we seek to learn to live in the way of Jesus. Our perspective is that everything in God’s word is given to us for God’s glory and our joy; that conviction shapes the way we teach the scriptures! We are convinced that God is after our good. We see the Bible as being very relevant for life today and a means by which we understand the gospel and are transformed by His Spirit. It is true in every culture around the globe, challenging for every person, and all about Jesus! We would love to have you visit us but more importantly we would love to help you engage Jesus through his word.
Songs For Soul Seasons
The book of Psalms shows us how faith-filled souls respond to God in every possible season of life. Our hope is to sing songs for every soul’s season. If someone in our community is suffering, we want them to have a song in their soul that will guide them to worship in that season. If they are full of joy and excitement about something, we want them to have songs of delight to help them praise.
When asked about “proper” worship forms Jesus said, “…the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him (John 4:23 ESV).” We want to do just that (worship in spirit and truth) at South. We are passionately committed to singing great old songs because they help us remember that Christianity is an ancient Movement. We are also committed to singing new songs because Christianity is a movement that is still alive and God is still giving songs to His people.
Music is a powerful medium of communication. Melody, harmony, rhythm, and repetition are very effective in helping the mind and heart understand and comprehend ideas. In one sense you could say part of singing is learning (internalizing) truth. Singing is also an opportunity to express yourself with mind, body, and emotion. Just like a groan of frustration may be the only way you can express your your feeling, singing is often one of the ways Christians express their hopes, gratitude, and delight in God.
