During Sunday services, we recently started playing the message of this song…we are no longer slaves to fear. Even though you may not be a full-time slave to fear, you may have inner anxiety about a particular day. Another person’s heavy words may have impacted you and have you in their grip. You may have foreseen the loss of a job, being overtaken by a serious illness, or feel you cannot adequately provide for a child dear to you. You are not alone.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:25-34 ESV)

Fear is a common aspect of other sins. For example, anger is almost always rooted in fear of losing personal control. As Christians we have a good Father with our best interest in mind and infinite resources and power to work out His care for us. Our confidence in God’s love for us provides resources to face ANY situation. We need not fear because of Him.

This song reminds me that I am far more than my greatest success and far more then my greatest weakness…I am a child of God. That untouchable identity is God’s creation. I (and you if you are his child) have a heavenly Father with the mental capacity to see and care for every wildflower and bird as well as paint the sky every day. He loves us enough to send His Son Jesus and adopt us as His children. THAT is a great Father! As I repeat this song, it drills these beautiful, fear destroying, truths into my soul.

You unravel me, with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance, from my enemies
Till all my fears are gone

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mothers womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of GodI am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

We’ve been liberated
From our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
All my fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
So I could stand and sing
I am child of God…
